Macdonald Challenges Greens to Do the Right Thing

Queensland Senator, Ian Macdonald, who was a member of the Parliamentary Committee of Inquiry into the proposed Traveston Crossing Dam near Gympie, has called on The Greens to rule out any preference deal with Anna Bligh and the State Labor Government over the ALP's demonstrated trashing of the environment by their Traveston Crossing Dam decision.

“The Greens, along with the Liberal and National Parties, have campaigned vigorously against flooding the Mary Valley to create Traveston Crossing Dam since the State Labor Government first proposed it in early 2006. However, if their recent talks with Anna Bligh result in a preference deal at the next State Election, The Greens will have undone all their good work.

Greens preferences could mean the difference between winning and losing the next State Election for Anna Bligh and Labor. If The Greens help re-elect the Labor Party in Queensland, they will be signing the death warrant of the Mary Valley and the endangered Lungfish, Mary River Cod and Mary River Turtle,” said Senator Macdonald.

“If Labor wins the next State election, the Mary Valley will be gone forever. I strongly urge The Greens to do the right thing by the Mary River and the endangered species that live in it and adopt a Just Vote One strategy in Queensland. It is the environmentally responsible thing to do,” said Senator Macdonald.
