Collaborative work done between James Cook University and MBD Energy limited again highlights the worth of Northern Australia to the Australian nation.
Opposition Spokesman on Northern Australia Senator Ian Macdonald today congratulated the University and the Company on the launch of their Bio technology project which will use algae to recycle industrial c02 emissions for conversion into oils suitable for manufacture of high grade plastics, transport fuel and nutritious food for livestock.
“The process developed at James Cook University in Townsville will use C02 emissions from power stations and combine it with Northern Australia’s sunshine to create a process that could have major implications for Australia’s greenhouse gas emissions.
“As I said in my speech on the CPRS Bill earlier this week, the government should be investing more money in the type of research and development being done by MBD and the University, and less money on spin and promoting Mr Rudd’s ego around the world.
“I am so very proud of James Cook University and its researchers and particularly Dr Kirsten Heimann, Professor Rocky de Nys and their teams
“James Cook University is pioneering research into a large range of different algae and has shown it is a leader in tropical research which can become commercially used around the tropical parts of the world.
“MBD Energy are to be applauded for their courage and enthusiasm in reaching the first stage of this ambitious project.
“Whilst there are very many challenges still to be faced, I am confident that the skill of James Cook Researchers and the enthusiasm and leadership of MBD in the use of C02 emissions in this very worthwhile process, can really do something positive about reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Senator Macdonald joined 100 other leaders in business, science and research at James Cook University today for the official launch by Queensland Premier Anna Bligh.
