Kevin Rudd has again shown his disdain for people outside the capital cities in his latest announcement on indigenous health.
Coalition spokesman on Northern and Remote Australia, Senator Ian Macdonald said that the financial incentives being offered to doctors to sign up indigenous patients would have little impact on those in remote indigenous communities who desperately need better health services.
“This pompously announced “Health Initiative” simply overlooks the fact that few people living in remote Australia have a GP at hand to deal with Indigenous health” said Senator Macdonald.
“Again this is all about spin and politicking whilst ignoring the people who desperately need additional health facilities.
“It is clear that increasingly remote Australians are becoming second class citizens under the Rudd Government”.
“Rather than providing money to GPs in already over-served capital and major regional cities, Mr Rudd should be pouring more money into remote health and giving additional support for the Flying Doctor.
“In remote Australia the numbers are few and Mr Rudd is able to ignore the voting impact of the handful of people who live in remote Australia.
“I call upon all fair minded Australians to support their cousins in remoter areas by demanding that Mr Rudd get serious about the health, welfare and job prospects of Australians living away from the major centres.
