Evidence given at Senate Estimates last night (Tuesday) revealed that not only has the Green Loans Program been bungled by the Minister for the Environment, Water Heritage and the Arts, Peter Garrett MP, but nothing has been done to deliver the $50 Green Rewards Voucher promised as an incentive to apply for a Green Loan.
Queensland Senator Ian Macdonald said that any business promoting an incentive would make sure that it delivered on its promise, unlike Mr Garrett who had again failed to deliver.
"For those who did make it through the swings and roundabouts of a Green loan application process and received their report, they were told that 'to help you get started, my Department will shortly be sending you a $50 Green Reward Card which you can redeem at selected retail outlets to purchase eligible energy or water saving devices' " Senator Macdonald said.
On questioning at Estimates, Departmental officers admitted that the $50 Green Rewards Voucher was still under consideration and that the "selected retail outlets" had not yet been identified.
"Officials could give no "guestimation" even of when the promised Vouchers might be available for cashing in."
"Here we have another example of the Rudd Government's hollow promises - all talk and no delivery." Senator Macdonald said
