The cleanup following cyclone Ului is well underway and the Whitsundays will again be at their sparkling best in time for the Easter holidays, a North Queensland politician said today.
Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for Northern and Remote Australia, Senator Ian Macdonald, said after visiting the Whitsunday region and Mackay that whilst the cleanup will continue and some people do need assistance, the fabulous tourist magnet of the Whitsunday Coast has bounced back quickly from cyclone Ului.
“The rain keeps the Whitsunday’s in their sparkling pristine condition and whilst the cyclone has caused some inconvenience, Southerners looking forward to a fabulous Easter break should not be perturbed by the passing of cyclone Ului,” said Senator Macdonald.
“The Whitsunday Coast and islands are always great value for money but there will be real bargains this Easter.
“Relatively, there was little damage from the cyclone and the region’s up and running and ready to accept southerners wanting an exciting break in the north,” he said.
“The pre-Easter period always marks the change of climatic conditions in the north and heralds in the fabulous winter period for the Whitsunday Coast.
“Whilst we in the north appreciate the concern that southerners have shown for the cyclone impact, sometimes media reports are overstated and have a very negative impact on one of the most important industries along the Mackay-Whitsunday Coast – that is tourism,” said Senator Macdonald.
“Having visited many of the areas hit by the cyclone I can assure southerners that the Coast will be up and ready for business by the time Easter rolls around – and in fact it will be looking at its sparkling newest and best!,” said Senator Macdonald.
