Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for Northern and Remote Australia, Senator Ian Macdonald, is in Rockhampton and Gladstone today discussing tactics with the LNP and meeting with local businesses and the Rockhampton City Council.
Senator Macdonald said the Central Queensland region had become an important battleground for the next election with the Rudd Government introducing a great big new tax on everything.
“It‘s towns like Rockhampton and Gladstone that’ll be hit hardest by the Rudd Government’s disastrous ETS,” said Senator Macdonald.
“The ETS has put LNP in the strongest position it’s been in Capricornia and Flynn for many years and it’s vital we get a strong candidate that can hold Kirsten Livermore to account for supporting such a damaging piece of legislation.
“I believe the next election in Capricornia and Flynn will be a referendum
on Mr Rudd’s great big new tax on everything,” he said.
“The fact is Rockhampton and Gladstone has more to loose than most other cities
in Australia.
“The next election will be a matter of economic life and death for this region - that's why it’s so important for local LNP supporters to be ready when ever the election is called,” he said.
“In Flynn the LNP have preselected colourful local businessman, Ken O’Dowd. Mr O’Dowd is a former publican who won’t pull any punches in taking the fight up to the ALP’s Chris Trevor.
“I look forward to joining our LNP candidates in continuing the fight keep Kevin Rudds ETS tax from destroying so many industries and small businesses in the Central Queensland region,” said Senator Macdonald.
