Only one week after he claimed he had never lied in politics, Transport Minister Anthony Albanese has told a complete whopper about the status of the Jubilee Bridge which has been committed to by the Coalition.
Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for Northern and Remote Australia, Senator Ian Macdonald said that the Coalition will meet its promises on road and rail funding, and that they have all been allowed for within planned funding levels.
“Most of the Coalition promises referred to today by Mr Albanese and Senator Conroy relate, in whole or in part, to funding to flow outside the current forward estimates and under the funding envelope for future AusLink national transport plans,” Senator Macdonald said.
“This is unlike Labor which today confirmed that it will not fund the Jubilee Bridge.
“Other projects involve relatively small amounts of money and can easily be funded under the banner of the existing $26 billion transport construction budget. Others still are projects that were begun under the Coalition and will continue under the next Coalition government.
“It is amazing to see what Mr Albanese and Senator Conroy will sink to. They will do or say anything to win the next election.
“The replacement of the Jubilee Bridge is essential for Innisfail, this is something the Government doesn’t understand. We want to fund it, rather than play silly political games.
