Julia Gillard’s announcement of her new Cabinet following the brutal axing of former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, shows that this is the same old team who have done so little for Northern Australia and whose decisions on the ETS and the Mining Tax have put in peril future investment in the North.
Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for Northern and Remote Australia, Senator Ian Macdonald said that Northern members Kirsten Livermore, Jim Turner and Chris Trevor were ignored in the reshuffle
“Clearly the new Prime Minister has little confidence in those three representatives of the Labor Government in central and northern Queensland.”
“Ms Gillard leaves in place the same Cabinet and decision makers who effectively caused the demise of the shipbuilding industry in Cairns, and whose support for Anna Bligh’s wild Rivers legislation, has confined the people of Cape York to a life of welfare dependency”
“Northern Australia is the future of our nation, but Ms Gillard continues her predecessors approach of ‘out of sight out of mind’.
“Only a change of government and the election of representatives passionate about the North, will see real and sustainable development across the top of Australia.
